We weren't familiar with the outerwear company Aether before - but just watched this cool video about their new space-saving, multi-level store in SF on Cool Hunting. (we're fans of Cool Hunting - they do really nice video profiles) The two founders of Aether seem really smart with good taste - we'll definitely be checking out their site and visiting their store next time we're in California.
Mood Indigo Trailer - Michel Gondry's new movie
This looks like it's going to be lovely - another visually (and musically) rich, touching film from the creative mind of Michel Gondry.
Nick Darmstaedter at Zach Feuer

Nick Darmstaedter
Garbage Bitch (Pink Panther Plain), 2013
Silkscreen ink, enamel and acrylic on canvas in three parts
120 x 96 inches
We went to a few openings last Thursday night in Chelsea, and liked
what we saw in a group show at Zach Feuer gallery - especially this piece
by Nick Darmstaedter. It felt kind of like a contemporary, cool
detached nod to Warhol and Richard Prince - with other minimalist
references mixed in as well - plus it was a really big painting, and we like big paintings.
Secret of Marimekko
To tell you the truth, we didn't know that much about Marimekko - we thought it was a Japanese textile company
founded by a talented woman named Marimekko back in the 1950's. Boy
were we wrong. Check out this sweet little video that showcases some of
their poppy designs, history and driving
philosophy. We want to live in this world.
drawing for ellsworth kelly
Ellsworth Kelly is a favorite painter of mine (and an art luminary, of course.) The sparseness and clarity of his vision have been an inspiration since I was a painting student back in the early 90s. I had the opportunity to talk with Ellsworth last week, and hope to visit with him in Spencertown, New York, this fall. I just sent out a little drawing and note to him this morning, to help seal the deal, and lock in a date to visit.

a brief history of john baldessari
How cool is this video about John Baldessari, narrated by Tom Waits? Way cool.
some of frank stella's early paintings at L&M Arts
We love Frank Stella's early paintings. L&M Arts on 78th Street is showing a selection of them now until June 2nd. We're going - are you?
NOWNESS presents Irving Blum on Sleeping Girl (a Sotheby film)
NOWNESS is an amazing site for art, design and culture videos. Here's the latest video we watched and loved; Irving Blum of historic Ferus Gallery in LA, talking with Tobias Meyer of Sotheby's about Lichtenstein and Warhol, etc.
Irving Blum on Sleeping Girl on Nowness.com.
daniel clowes new york times video profile
We've been huge fans of the work of Daniel Clowes for years...years! Eightball, Like a Velvet Glove, etc. His drawing ability; amazing, his storytelling unique, sad, funny. Clowes has a retrospective opening at the Oakland Museum of Art; we hope to catch it when we're in California in June. Check out this cool short video profile of Clowes from the New York Times website. We were looking closely to compare notes on what pens and pencils he uses.
delusional jonathan levine
We don't know much at all about Jonathan LeVine Gallery, but find this promo video for a new book about it to be pretty entertaining. Pretty sure that's Jonathan dressed as a teletubby breakdancing.
donald baechler at the fisher landau center for art
We're planning to see Donald Baechler's big exhibition at Fisher Landau this Saturday; just in time because it closes on Sunday the 1st. We've been big fans of Baechler's work for years; deceptively simple, his paintings and sculptures are wonderful.
happy birthday, mies
Today is the birthday of Mies van der Rohe. (thanks for letting us know, Google home page)
creature with amethyst gem (gem creature) by Dain Fagerholm
Ok, can you tell we're avoiding doing work today? Here's something else we came across online that is tripping us out; a gif from artist/illustrator Dain Fagerholm. How cool is this?? We like it!
xperia commercial with wrecking crew orchestra
We're taking a quick break at the studio to trip out on this video featuring Japan's Wrecking Crew Orchestra. Yeah, it's a promo for the Xperia smartphone, but oh well.
gerhard richter painting documentary
We're very interested in checking out this new documentary on Gerhard Richter in his studio. The trailer is great; Gerhard scraping paint across canvas make him look like a farmer in a field or a fisherman at sea - an old man toiling away at his work.
j. mayer h. architecture
We're enjoying the work of J. Mayer H. Architecture today - especially their Sarpi Border Checkpoint, a very unique and playful structure. Looks kind of like a spaceship landed by the sea.
truman capote, 1965
We love this portrait of Truman Capote from Architectural Digest in 1965. Saw it on The Selvedge Yard, which is a really cool site that covers the classics. This photo captures something of what we imagine Capote was like, at least one aspect of him - playful and relaxed but at the same time always composed.
portrait of artist nina chanel abney by brigitte lacombe
Sometimes a photo transfixes; the tone, clarity, and subject. This is just one of those images - a portrait of the artist Nina Chanel Abney taken by Brigitte Lacombe in 2009.
ellsworth kelly lacma interview
Here's a fun little LACMA interview with Ellsworth Kelly, one of my favorite artists. He has a new exhibition up at the museum that runs through April 22nd, 2012. Definitely worth checking out if you're in LA!
a video of the bouroullecs drawing
This is a fun little video showing the Bouroullecs in the process of drawing.
Album from Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec on Vimeo.
